:el-dritch:adjective - eerie, strange or unnatural, especially in a way that inspires fear.
Give us your horror tropes, Lovecraftian monsters, and Gothic scenes. Whatever scares you most, this is the place to write and art about it! Writers must produce a horror-themed fic of at least 5k words. Artists will then claim stories and produce one piece of art (or more) for that story.
The challenge will be run simultaneously on tumblr and Livejournal. Posting begins on October 9. Fast, quick and fun... and did we mention scary?
What does eldritch mean? Eldritch means weird, eerie, strange or unnatural especially in a way that inspires fear. The word’s origin comes from a time when otherworldly beings were commonly thought to inhabit the earth. Give us all of your horror fics, your Lovecraftian monsters, your Gothic scenes - just make it scary.
What is the minimum word count? Mini Bangs must be minimum of 5,000 words, with artists committing to one piece of art and a title card. Big Bangs must be minimum of 15,000 words, with artists committing to two pieces of art and a title card. There is no maximum word count.
Can I write and create art for this bang? Definitely! You may sign up as an artist AND as a writer, but you may not claim your own fic. It goes without saying that you must still meet your deadlines on both sides.
Can I write pairings? You can write gen or include pairings/ships, if you like. Main focus of this bang is on the horror aspects of the fic. If you choose to write pairings, no sexual situations for characters under 16.
Can I write AUs or crossovers? AUs are allowed for this bang but not crossovers.
Do I need to include any particular characters in this bang? No, but the characters must be part of the SPN universe.
Can I write a sequel or prequel to an existing fic? Only if the Eldritch Bang fic can read as a stand-alone fic.
Do I need to have a LJ or a tumblr account to participate? We will accept postings on either of those platforms, but you don’t need to have both to participate. If you are only on another platform like AO3 or DW, let the mods know.
What are the deadlines? See our full schedule here for the due dates.
Where do we post the fic? Main posting for the 2021 Bang starts October 9th. There is an AO3 collection if you post your fics there.
RULES: Writers: Fics should focus on horror. If you have questions or ideas about what that might include, see our FAQ or look through this listing of horror tropes for some ideas. Send the mods an email or ask if you have any other questions.
RPF is allowed.
If pairings, no sexual situations for characters under 16.
No soliciting from artists in advance of the event and please do not have other artists create additional works for your piece.
Please respond to all writer check-ins.
If you don’t submit a rough draft of your fic by the deadline, then you will be considered withdrawn. Writers may withdraw from the Bang up until the day before artist claims begin.
Be complete in your fic summary and tag all warnings and ratings as appropriate for artist claims. When in doubt, tag it. If you have a question about this, ask the mods.
Once claimed, stay in touch with your artist and collaborate.
Fics should be beta’d before posting.
When the posting schedule goes up, we will try to accommodate requests if you can’t make a specific date, but please make all efforts to meet your assigned posting date.

For this bang, fics at claims will be marked as Mini Bang (one required piece of art plus a title card) or Big Bang (two required pieces of art plus a title card). If you feel inspired to do more or create headers, go wild!
Artists may withdraw from the challenge prior to artist claims.
Once you have claimed a fic, please make every effort to complete your artwork.
